Crit
Let’s talk stitches!
Crit has five stitches that make up everything you need!
- Single Crochet(SC)
- Double Crochet (DC)
- Picot (PICOT)
- Bobble/Popcorn Stitch (BOBBLE)
- Magic Ring (MR)
Yarn!
For this class we’ll be using a bulky plush yarn.
You can use whatever type of yarn you want, but it will change the size of the doll.
Hooks!
I have a LOT of hooks. You have to find the right kind of hook for you. Currently, I use Clover hooks. We’re going to be using a J-10 (6 mm) hook. You can really use whatever size you want, but for the purpose of the class, we’ll use the 6 mm hook.
Adjusting For Under Age 3!
This is my soap box about safety eyes. Safety eyes are NOT safe for any child under the age of 3 (or pets). They have jaws of dooooooooom and will inevitably pop them apart as they gum/gnaw on the doll. It creates a choking hazard.
If you are setting fire and melting your doll eyes to “make them safe for under 3”, you are creating a really toxic doll. Melting plastic is in no way safe for anyone to ingest. It’s why they don’t recommend it in microwaves. Just don’t do it. Leave your pyro tendencies at the door.
If you’re gluing felt eyes on, you may want to check if the glue is safe to be ingested (not likely). So, I don’t recommend that either.
The only way to make a doll safe for a child under the age of 3 is to make embroidered/sewn eyes.
What To Expect In Class!
The class will have up to 25 people. I will make sure everyone has all the supplies they need. Then we’ll start with me demonstrating the MR. I will then walk around and provide individual/smaller group support. We will work as long as you want to stay and work on the pattern until it’s time to go on to your next class/event.
It takes me about two hours to make a doll on my own, uninterrupted. Don’t panic if you aren’t going to finish by the end of class. You will be able to ask/email any crochet questions after the class.
Can I Bring My Own Supplies?
You’re welcome to bring whatever supplies you prefer to work with. But you paid for the supplies as part of your class and will be given them to take and do with as you will!
If you don’t want your supplies I provide, you can always donate them to future students as well.
